CC3 Challenge 5

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my last post and your concern over my dreaded bad back which seems to be healing nicely now thank goodness.  I do need to take more care whilst tending my allotment (yes Anne you were spot on!).  Hello to my new followers lovely to have you on board .

I am participating today in Linda Ledbetters CC3 challenge #5, which has us looking at pages 39 & 40 of Tim's book the Compendium of Curiosities III as there is part 1 and part 2 although completing both parts is not compulsory. For this challenge the technique focuses on "Distress Watercoloring" and you have to have the book to play along as it would not be fair to Tim if we gave away the techniques. There are prizes given to one lucky winner from Tim & Mario, chosen by the Curiosity Crew, and the sponsor is Inspiration Emporium who are offering a $50 store gift voucher.

Watercoloring is not my best area, I am always looking with great admiration at the wonderful watercoloring of many of my blog friends on their projects but try as I might it never quite looks right when I do it (all hints and tips accepted gladly!), however I gave it my best shot and this is how it came out.

My card started with 4 stamped images of the classics butterfly on watercolour card which were colored according to how Tim instructed in the book. I used Peacock Feathers, Peeled Paint, Broken China and Stormy Sky.

The edges were distressed and inked using Pumice Stone and I also added false stitching with pricking the edges and linking them with Pumice Stone Distress Pen.

I die-cut cork using the trellis frameworks die and I also used a couple of metal trellis die-cuts left over from another project.

There was a little spritzing going on with my spritzing tool and the same Pumice Stone Distress Pen.  I am not too happy with this, I think I got a little too close the the card and it made it a bit splodgy, but at this stage I had to let it be.

Then it was all mounted onto a contrasting blue background to help it stand out.
Thank you for dropping by
Mo x

  6. I like your card. I like that you used pumice stone instead of vintage photo. The stitching fooled me, too. The watercoloring looks very good to me.

  7. I cannot believe that the stitching is not real, it looks fabulous and so does your watercolouring! Love how you used the dragonfly stamp, it looks so effective and the addition of the lattice is a wonderful finishing touch. This really is a beautiful card Mo! Glad to hear that your back is much improved. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Hugs, Anne xx

  9. Mo...your card is gorgeous! I love your faux stitching! I swear, I would not have the patience to do that! But it looks FABULOUS! Your use of Tim's blueprint dragonfly is perfection, as is your watercoloring of it. I also like the effect you've gotten from tiling that stamp! Very cool. Your card is beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with us at CC3C. <3 Candy

  10. Ooooo, love this Mo! Great colouring and you've shabbied the artwork up brilliantly. You had me completely 'stitched up' [groan] with those faux stitches, they look so realistic! A fabulous piece and a great job! Have a great weekend Mo. Chris xxx

  15. I think your watercolouring looks delicious - the colours are great and blend really delicately from one to another. Not to care what happens is the only tip I have... don't over think it and don't look for perfection... it's one of those times when embracing imperfection is absolutely the thing to do!

Love that corky trellis. Hope you have nice light ones like that in your allotment - that'd save your back!
